Travelling in Singapore

It has been 1.5 months since I have bought my first scooter. The reason being, the long travelling time from Tuas to and fro home. Incidentally, I can now travel better to go for any event or location without much hassle.

Unless! Of course if it rains..

I landed myself with the Piaggio X9 scooter. They are also the makers of your Vespa and Gilera series of scooters. The decision is pretty much a tricky one, after all there are more affordable bikes around. For example:

Kup Kia (Honda Wave 125 is a common one)
Honda Kup Kia

Honda Phantom
Honda Phantom

Piaggio Vespa
Piaggio Classic Vespa

All of these can be had at below $2000, though Vespas might be even more cheaper because of their old age. You might not want to rely on the Vespa during rainy weather, thats for sure. The choices have economical mileage and are easily maintained by the wealth and affordability of the spare parts. You can trust the Japanese Honda brand, their parts are cheap and easy to source for!! LOL (It is a good thing, really)

I went for the X9 instead, a big scooter with the weight of a Honda Super4, another widely used bike in the 400cc series. The X9 is heavy, no doubt about it, but holds the advantage of storage space. With a spacious area of about 50L (it’s a guess..), you can put much more than just two helmets, like a small little boot of your own. All the more convenient..

Mine is white, here is a black one for your viewing.

Weird happenings

I have been informed that the links in the right side do not work at all. They will lead to a timeout. I have not been able to find the root cause of the problem.. Yet..

But meanwhile, posts will be slow.. as if they are not already =p

Pathfinder

The trip to the insurance agency was informative. Being the lazy bum cultivated by years of procrastination, I was close to declining the meeting. After all, I am an engineer by profession or at least still in learning and training. Why would I want to be involved in insurance at all?

But we all know that is not the case. The new economy tells us that in order to succeed, one must be a generalist, not a specialist. The Gold-collar worker, where you have multiple skill sets that help you to manage many responsibilities. In other words, more bang for the buck for your employers. So there is nothing to lose in reality, with renewed enthusiasm, I will meet Yousheng’s associate manager on a Saturday.

Any fears of hard selling, pressure tactics fleeted away upon reaching his office. Being a late Saturday noon, there was hardly a soul in the office. The souls there were already packing and ready to leave for another relaxed weekend. First things first, I was given 3 forms to fill up.

1.Personal Particulars
2.Goals, Aspirations and Ideals
3.DISC Personality Questionnaire

At first I thought it was a contract, judging from the hard sell tactics that some of my friends have experienced. Eventually, I got to meet Kian Heong, the manager. He was a soft spoken person and very friendly. We chatted a bit on aspirations and how my DISC profile was like. I cannot remember the details but the talk about insurance selling proved to be lucrative. After all, if helping people is your goal, insurance must be the answer.

I was tempted. Perhaps I have not found my calling, like a sampan at sea, following the waves. But I remembered Project:Senso and how it had failed before. Like a losing proposition, I declined their invitation to join the team. Like a heavy weight off my back, it is nice to know that I am not lost at all.

PS: Ironically, the insurance agency went by the name of the title. Sweet.
